ICYMI – On Wednesday March 14, 2018, we carpooled from Orange County to LA – dodging Disney characters, buskers, and hustlers along Hollywood Blvd.
It was the band’s fourth (my third) Kimmel appearance, but each time always feels different. This time, we performed indoors – the segment that aired the same evening. About 50-100 people squeezed in there.
The production crews are always A1 pros. By now, they have this dialed in like a science.
We grabbed some food at a spot nearby – 25 Degrees. It’s never crowded when we roll through there in the afternoon. That’s okay with us!
I always have to remind myself, “this is a late night TV show. You are going to be on television in front of millions of people.” After doing this a few times, you may get a little numb to the emotional aspect of the experience, but the energy in that building is really special. While we waited for stage call and got a little “no-shine” cream on our faces, the CC TV’s played rolls of past performances. Looking at the tapings of Ariana Grande, Morgan Freeman, Ellen, Garth Brooks, and other mega-stars, you can’t help but feel a little small. But, you have to shake that off and jump in the driver’s seat and don’t look back. You can’t let that get into your head. The focus… is music.
We performed “Celebrate,” which although some people feel as though it was a little too chill and emotional for the type of band we are (fun, lively, energetic), it is the highest charting song on radio right now. As Dave reminded me, “put your money on the winning horse.”
The Unlikely Candidates lead singer, Kyle Morris, flew in to perform with us and we are so grateful for his talent. His voice literally soars over the band and carries the song on his angel wings. Haha! And how could you miss that super fly blazer?
After watching the segment over and over again, I am still really proud of this performance.
Maybe Colbert and Fallon will catch on and give a slot on their show sometime soon 😉 If you bump into Fallon or Colbert online and wanna send them a gift, pass it on! hah
Thank you Nord Keyboards, Artist Relations, Dirty Heads and all you fine people!
